September 30th, 2017 @ 11am - From the Grand Canyon to Route 66

Have you ever taken on the challenge of racing a 300 ton steam engine for 53 miles? Now is your chance. Man Vs Machine will be a one day, one way road bike event that begins at the Grand Hotel in Tusayan, AZ near the edge of the Grand Canyon’s south rim and will travel 53 miles south to historic Williams, Arizona. Experience the rush of going head to head against a 1923 300 ton steam engine.

Course Description

The race begins on Highway 64 in Tusayan at 11 am on September 30th, 2017 and travels 53 miles south with the finish line on Historic Route 66 at the intersection of 2nd Street and Historic Route 66, adjacent to the Grand Canyon Railway Depot. The race travels 50 miles on Highway 64 before merging onto Historic route 66 for the final 3 miles. The event is completely permitted by the Arizona Department of Transportation and will have traffic control on the entire route. The route will be monitored by law enforcement from the Coconino County Sherriff’s Department, Arizona Highway Patrol, and the Williams Police Department. You can ride any type of bike as long as you can ride it safely in large groups. Recumbents and handbikes are acceptable types of bikes. Aerobars are NOT allowed in the Man vs Machine event.

Transportation Options

 
You have two options for getting to the start line.  We advise parking in Williams prior to the event as there are no transport options back to Tusayan after the event.
 

You may take the bus for $30 (seating limited) on a one-way ticket with your bike (Williams to Tusayan start line), this can be purchased on the race registration site (8:40 am departure from the Williams Visitor Center Parking Lot @ Babbitt/Polson Warehouse Stage, 200 W Railroad Ave, Williams, AZ 86046)

You may call 1-800-the-train to buy a ticket for the steam engine, $59 per adult and ride the train with your bike from Williams to the Grand Canyon. The MVM steam train will depart at 6:30 am on event day and provide 1-2 hours at the canyon before you ride 4+ miles downhill to Tusayan for the start line.  It’s a fee free day at the park (Save $25) and the train tickets are offered at a discount. There is not a better deal for this unique experience!

Event Date – September 30th, 2017

Packet pickup will be available from 4:30pm-7pm on September 29th, and 6:00am-8:30 am on September 30th at the Williams Visitor Center Parking Lot @ Babbitt/Polson Warehouse Stage.
200 W Railroad Ave, Williams, AZ 86046 or in Tusayan (start line) in the Parking lot of The Grand Hotel from 9:45am-10:45am. (start line packet pickup not recommended)

2017 Man vs Machine Team Championship

Register a team of five or more and receive 20% off your teams registration upon checkout and be automatically entered into the 2017 Man vs Machine Team Championship. 1st place will be determined by the average time of the first 5 athletes across the finish line. Custom manufactured iron trophy and bragging rights will be awarded during awards ceremony.
